DPP Diagnostic Micro-dosing Pump

In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) Pumps

Diener Precision Pumps are the ideal choice for fluid management within In-vitro diagnostics (IVD) systems. Our precision gear pumps are typically used for bulk fluid transfer and waste fluid removal, whereas our metering/dosing pumps are used to move and dose reagents, buffers, and solvents.

IVD Fluid Transfer Gear Pumps

DPP gear pumps are typically used for bulk transfer and waste fluid removal, and are preferred for the following reasons:

  • Constructed from chemically inert materials: typically stainless steel, PEEK, and EPDM
  • The pump head is magnetically coupled without seals, eliminating any risk of leakage
  • The low inertia of the Diener design results in faster response times and lower power consumption
  • The pumps are self-priming
  • The unique flow-through design allows for faster clean-in-place
  • Properly applied, the pumps will last the life of the instrument

Compact and Adjustable Reagent Metering Pumps

  • Metering pumps are typically used for agents, buffers, and solvents
  • Inert materials of construction: alumina ceramic and ETFE
  • The pump displacement is adjustable in the range of zero to 500 microliters per stroke
  • The pumps are fitted with an optical sensor that defines the “home” position
  • Smooth and quiet operation throughout the speed range thanks to the balanced driving elbow
  • Quick installation time and space-saving with their multiple ports and mounting options
  • Double-ended metering pumps allow pre-configured dosing where precise mixing ratios are required. Each end can be independently adjusted

  • Metering Pumps vs. Peristaltic Pumps

    Metering Pumps vs. Peristaltic Pumps

Unlike peristaltic pumps, metering pumps are maintenance-free and generate higher pressures (to six bar). The ceramic piston/cylinders do not wear and there are no tubes to replace.

The metering pump displacement is adjustable between 20 and 500 microliters/stroke and the drive train balanced for quiet operation.

The zero dead volume ensures faster self-priming and reduces the time to clean-in-place.

Diener’s metering pump is a “fit and forget” solution.

  • Gear Pumps vs. Diaphragm Pumps

    Gear Pumps vs. Diaphragm Pumps

Diener’s IVD gear pumps have no internal check valves to fail so can provide pulseless flow of high viscosity fluids and fluids suspended solids.

Gear pumps can generate much higher pressures and the magnetic coupling ensures no leakage. The flow-through design reduces clean-in-place time.

The internal bearings are oversized to ensure long life and quiet operation.

Diener’s gear pump is a “fit and forget” solution.

Case Study – Ratio Metering Challenge

Problem

The customer wanted to accurately mix a concentrated base solution with water. The volumetric ratio had to be within 0.5 µL per stroke. Using two pumps was expensive and presented electronic control challenges.

Solution

Diener’s adjustable metering pumps can be calibrated at precise dispense volumes, so it made sense to mount one pump to each end of a stepper motor. The pumps operate together and are calibrated to the exact volumetric ratio, in this case 1 part buffer to 10 parts water. By using different piston diameters, we were able to fulfill other mixing ratios up to 100:1 using the same basic pump design.
